Obesity gene may shield against depression
Excerpt:
Possibly there is a little truth to the stereotype about being fat and happy — new study finds that individuals who have a gene related to obesity may have a somewhat lower risk of depression. People who had a variation of a gene called the FTO gene were 8 percent less most likely to have depression, analysts discovered. In 2007, experts uncovered this version of the FTO gene was a major factor to genetic obesity among individuals of European descent. The finding “suggests that the FTO gene may have a broader role than initially thought, with an effect on depression and other common psychiatric disorders,” the analysts wrote in their study published today (Nov. 20) in the diary Molecular Psychiatry. The analysts stated the findings challenge the idea that obesity and depression are typically linked.

- Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual’s overall sentiment.
- The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual’s average comment sentiment.
- The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual’s consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).
Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
